While you could easily picture her bringing her typical offbeat effervescence to the role of an elf, you may not automatically think of Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) when considering a potential Santa Claus candidates. Walt Disney Pictures, though, are clearly thinking differently, with news arriving via Variety that talks have kicked off with Kendrick about starring in a new Christmas comedy film.
Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality) has written the movie, and is busy developing it to direct. The story, which has a working title Nicole, follows what happens when Santa decides to retire. His son, who is initially chosen to take over the family business, gets a case of low elf-esteem (pun unapologetically intended) the night before his first solo Christmas Eve flight and so his sister has to take over. Shades of Arthur Christmas (2011), then, but it certainly sounds likely a potentially fun take on the 'someone other than Santa saves Christmas' story.
Before she can even consider hopping on to a sleigh though, Kendrick will be shooting Pitch Perfect 3, which has recently kicked off and is due in UK cinemas on 22 December. She can also be seen in comedy drama Table 19, which is out in cinemas now.
