Apparently having had his full of hanging around with dead people, news arrives via Deadline that Swiss Army Man (2016) star Paul Dano looks set to take on an assassin in the currently in development The Engishman.
The film, directed by Edward Berger (Deutschland '83), is based on a speculative script by Luke Garrett, and set at some point during the forty year history of East Germany's Ministry For State Security, more commonly known as the Stasi. Dano's character is reportedly a young officer within that intelligence agency – which existed from 1950 to 1990 – who has an opportunity to move up in rank if he is able to determine the identity of an assassin dubbed The Englishman. The challenge is that his real identity isn't even known to those who hire him.
The Stasi had previously been explored in the critically acclaimed The Lives Of Others (2006).
Dano will be in cinemas later this year in the South Korean-American film Okja, which is directed by Bong Joon-Ho (Snowpiercer).
