Star Wars: The Last Jedi opening crawl seen on Rian Johnson's Instagram

We recently learnt the news that Star Wars Episode VIII's official title would be Star Wars: The Last Jedi – naturally sending everyone into feverish tides of speculation over what it exactly all means. The film's director, Rian Johnson (Looper), is still busy at work on post-production, and in the wake of the announcement, posted a behind the scenes shot from his editing suite via Instagram.

A post shared by Rian Johnson (@riancjohnson) on

With the caption "Felt so good to drop this into the cut this morning", the photo shows the newly revealed title on the iconic Star Wars opening crawl (all present and correct after the rebellious decision to drop it from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Also visible in the surprisingly modest little suite is a small R2-D2 droid.

There is not much more exciting information to be gleaned from the post, but it is Star Wars, and there is a certain nostalgic thrill to see a brand new opening crawl in its embryonic stages.

Post-production continues for a little while longer on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with editing, visual effects, and a John Williams score still be added, ahead of the planned 15 December worldwide release date.
