Pacific Rim 2 title confirmed as shooting starts

As it tracked down a director – Stephen S. DeKnight (Daredevil), taking over shot calling duties from Guillermo del Toro, who has stepped back to be producer and-co-writer this time around – and began gathering a cast including John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastwood (Fury), Pacific Rim's sequel has sometimes been referred to as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. Now, thanks to Boyega's Instagram feed, we have some confirmation of the title.

Boyega posted the above of his script cover as production kicked off on the movie. Not a lot is known about the plot, save for that it will feature more action between the giant, piloted robots known as Jaegers and the massive creatures from another dimension called Kaiju. Boyega is set as the son of the late Stacker Pentecost, as played by Idris Elba in the first film.

The likes of Cailee Spaeny (Counting To 1000), Tian Jing (Special ID), Levi Meaden (iZombie) and Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno are also in the cast for the movie, which has a script that has seen work from del Toro, Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) and Emily Carmichael, among others.

DeKnight has the cameras rolling now for a 23 February 2018 release.
