Michael Huisman set for The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

After lingering for a while in development limbo, the adaptation of Annie Barros and Mary Ann Schaffer's The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society finally seems to be picking up some momentum again, with Mike Newell (Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire) directing and Lily James (Cinderella) scoring the lead. Now the filmmakers have found her a co-star, with news arriving via The Hollywood Reporter that Game Of Thrones veteran Michael Huisman is set to join.

Adapted by writer and director Don Roos (The Opposite Of Sex) from the 2009 tome with a more recent draft by Tom Bezucha (The Family Stone), the film will see James play writer Juliet Ashton, who wrote magazine columns during World War II. In the aftermath of the conflict, she is contacted by Channel Islander Dawsey Adams, who tells her the intriguing tale of the book society formed to help undercut the Nazi presence on Guernsey. Ashton decides to investigate, and romance blossoms...

There is no sign yet of when the movie will kick off shooting, but Huisman has been keeping himself busy with several new acting gigs, including Saving Private Ryan cinematographer Janusz Kaminski's (1998) latest directorial outing American Dream.
