Already used to dealing with rogues and random creatures for her day job on Game Of Thrones, Emilia Clarke is set to swap Westeros for the galaxy far, far away, joining the cast of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's (The Lego Movie) still untitled young Han Solo Star Wars standalone.
The news was announced via the official Star Wars site, but no details were included about her character, only that, "Clarke's role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures." It is also unclear whether she will be the female lead, as her name wasn't among those previously in the running.
Han, of course, is being played by Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), who won the role over thousands of potentials. The story will follow Han's younger days before he meets the Rebellion, his adventures with Chewie and his friendship with fellow scoundrel Lando Calrissian, to be brought to life by Donald Glover (The Martian). Clarke is certainly a fine choice and will hopefully have some fun with the part.
With a script by Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) co-writer and Star Wars stalwart Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon, the still untitled Star Wars standalone will be with us in May 2018. The first of the new standalones, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is out in cinemas now.
