Director David Ayer clearly liked Ike Barinholtz's scene stealing, if relatively brief, turn as Griggs in Suicide Squad (2016). Because news arrives via Deadline that the director has now added him to the cast for his latest, fantasy cop thriller Bright.
Crafted as a spec script by Max Landis (Chronicle), Bright finds Will Smith (I Am Legend) and Joel Edgerton (Warrior) as a human and an orc who must outrun the authorities, criminals and a variety of supernatural beings to protect a powerful magic wand. Lucy Fry (Vampire Academy) is on as Tikka, a young elf with her own magical abilities who comes into possession of the wand and needs the leads' help when dark forces try to hunt her down. As for Ramírez, he will be an elf named Kandomere, assigned to the FBI's magic division.
Edgar Ramirez (The Girl On The Train), Brad William Henke (Orange Is The New Black) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) are all in the cast for this one, which has the backing of Netflix and should be in cinemas next year before starting its run on the streaming service.
In addition to his Suicide Squad duties last year, Barinholtz was seen in Bad Neighbours 2 (2016) and co-wrote Central Intelligence (2016). He has been busy working on Amy Schumer's new film and has a role in Felt, the drama about FBI agent Mark Felt, who supplied intel in the Watergate case as Deep Throat.
