Warren Beatty has been quietly trying to get his film about Howard Hughes, now called Rules Don't Apply, made for a few years and now it is finally ready for the wider world to see.
Despite the presence of Beatty both behind the camera as writer and director, and in front of it as Hughes, the focus is actually on aspiring actress Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins) and handsome driver Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich). She is under contract to Hughes' film studio and he is the man to drive her around, with the golden rule being that no employee must have a relationship with a contract actress.
Still, sparks fly between the devout Baptist beauty queen and the driver, a staunch Methodist engaged to his childhood sweetheart, no matter how much they try to deny it. As they are drawn deeper into Hughes' bizarre world, their lives are forever changed.
With the likes of Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day Off), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Martin Sheen (The Departed) and Haley Bennett (The Equalizer) filling out the cast, Rules Don't Apply is out in the US now and will arrive on our shores 27 January.
