Set in North Africa in 1942, Allied finds Brad Pitt (Inglourious Basterds) as an intelligence officer called Max Vatan, who meets Marion Cotillard's (Rust And Bone) resistance fighter on a potentially deadly mission behind German lines. She poses as his wife to help complete the task, and back in London later, the pair rekindle their affair as the bombs fall.
And to help the chemistry, the pair started hanging out before the cameras rolled. "It was crucial for Brad and Marion to not only begin rehearsing together before the shoot, but they also spent a lot of time developing their characters with the director, Robert Zemeckis," producer Graham King tells People. "By the time we got to set, it was really amazing to see these characters already feel lived in and real."
Written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises), Allied also features Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows), Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield) and Matthew Goode (Stoker) in the cast, and is out in cinemas now.
