Liam Neeson and Neil Jordan have a long history of working together, on films such as High Spirits (1988), Michael Collins (1996) and Breakfast On Pluto (2005). Now news arrives via Deadline that the actor and director are set to reunite for The Trainer.
Neeson is set to play John Moore, a top horse trainer living in the west of Ireland who suffers a terrible tragedy that sees him lose everything he cares for. Retreating from his life and work, he is finally coaxed back out into the world by the powerhouse pairing of a teenage refugee in need and a horse called Allabelle.
"Liam Neeson is one of the world's most beloved actors, so we're thrilled to have Liam return to Ireland with a character-driven film like The Trainer," HanWay Films' tells Deadline. "He and Neil are a great pairing and David Donohue's, James Villemaire's and Todd Komarnicki's script provides us a beautiful and life-affirming story of a man learning to live again."
Jordan should be filming this one next summer. Neeson will next be heard rather than seen in J.A. Bayona's (The Impossible) A Monster Calls, which arrives in cinemas 6 January.
