Since 2014, notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar has been played by Benicio Del Toro in Escobar: Paradise Lost (2014), and Wagner Moura in Netflix's Narcos – and there are two more films currently in the works. El Patron, with John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge!) is scarce on details, but news arrives via Variety that Escobar has just added Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead) to its currently small cast.
Already boasting Javier Bardem (Skyfall) as Pablo and Penélope Cruz (Volver) as journalist Virginia Vallejo, Escobar has now gained Peter Sarsgaard as DEA agent, Neymar. Written and directed by Fernando León de Aranoa (Mondays In The Sun), the latest take on the Colombian cartel leader will focus on Escobar's romantic liaisons with Cruz's reporter, while being hunted down by Sarsgaard and his team.
Sarsgaard will soon be seen as Robert Kennedy opposite Natalie Portman (Black Swan) in Pablo Larraín's (No) big awards contender, Jackie. Bardem has Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge out in cinemas next year, alongside new projects from Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) and Asghar Farhadi (A Separation), with wife Cruz also joining him in the latter.
Escobar is set to go into production this month.
