Blade Runner sequel will be called Blade Runner 2049

We are now a year away from the much anticipated (and much puzzled over) sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner. Many of the details are still under wraps, but at least it is no longer untitled, with Warner Bros announcing that the film will be called Blade Runner 2049.

Which makes sense, since the movie is apparently set several decades after Scott's original. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, and the world he inhabits has exponentially deteriorated, with environmental catastrophe plaguing humanity.

Ryan Gosling (Drive), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Robin Wright (House Of Cards), Ana de Armas (Knock Knock), Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista (Guardians Of The Galaxy) are also among the cast, with Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) calling the shots.

Also part of the press release is this informal shot of Villeneuve, Scott, Ford and Gosling apparently hanging out.

Blade Runner 2049 will be out on 6 October next year.
