New featurette for Doctor Strange arrives online

For all the promising visuals witnessed so far and its powerhouse cast, Doctor Strange remains one of the more mysterious Marvel Cinematic Universe properties for the casual cinemagoer. Marvel, then, have seen fit to spell things out a little more clearly with this new featurette that charts our hero's journey chronologically from cocky neurosurgeon to wizened superhero.

Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister), the film finds Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) as the Sorcerer Supreme, also known as Stephen Strange, a selfish New York surgeon who loses his professional skills in a car crash. After falling on hard times, he ends up in the care of a mystical healer known as the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), and learns to tap into psychic and magical powers. In recognition of his selfless efforts to thwart evil fellow disciple Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), he is taught the mystical arts and sets out to defeat other shady sorcerers and various villains.

We are promised a lot of peculiar goings on for this one that the trailer only hints at, since Strange's experience expands to encompass various dimensions (including the Quantum Realm first glimpsed in Ant-Man's climactic scenes) and director Scott Derrickson plans to make full use of 3D to bring it all to life.

With Rachel McAdams (About Time), Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Amy Landecker (A Serious Man) and Benedict Wong also in the cast, Doctor Strange is taking aim at an 25 October release in the UK before arriving in the US on 4 November.
