It has been a while since we have heard much about Robin Hood: Origins, which has had to wait for star Taron Egerton to finish his duties on Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle. But casting on the apparently gritty version of the Hood origin story is picking up again with news arriving via Variety that Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Of Grey) is in talks to play Will Scarlet.
Peaky Blinders regular director Otto Bathurst is in the director's chair for this one, which boasts a script from Joby Harold (Awake). Robin Hood: Origins will, as the title suggests, be just the latest film to follow the titular hero as he returns from the Crusades to discover massive corruption in feudal England and forms a band of outlaws to fight back.
Eve Hewson (Enough Said) is aboard to play Maid Marian, while Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) is set as Little John. If he signs, Dornan's Will Scarlet will be one of the key Merry Men who help our hero in his clash with the likes of the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Dornan, who is on the big screen now in Anthropoid and The 9th Life Of Louis Drax, and the small screen in The Siege Of Jadotville via Netflix, will return Christian Grey for Fifty Shades Of Grey (2015) sequel Fifty Shades Darker, which is out on 10 February next year.
