While Marvel usually prefer to make their own announcements (or confirm rumours), there is no denying the huge social media impact of Vin Diesel's mighty Facebook news trumpet. So while Marvel Studios have yet to make any official announcement, Diesel has revealed in a new video that the Guardians Of The Galaxy will appear in Avengers: Infinity War.
Being the voice of walking, talking tree creature Groot means that he is probably in a position to know, or it might be that contracts are starting to be signed. Still, we are betting Marvel might have liked to launch the news with something slightly more impressive than a rambling, bizarrely shot Facebook live video.
It is not exactly surprising that the Guardians would show up, given the galactic nature of Thanos' threat in Infinity War. How much screen time Star-Lord and the gang might get is anyone's guess at this point, as Infinity War and its follow-up, which has yet to get an official subtitle and is not supposed to be the second part of the story directly, will be crammed with Marvel heroes making a stand against the intergalactic supervillain.
"The Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War," Diesel said. "And that's incredibly exciting." Also covered? Fast 8 wrapping up (but no mention of the alleged beef between Diesel and Dwayne Johnson), a brief mention of one of his upcoming releases, Ang Lee's latest, Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and the unboxing of a trophy from Facebook celebrating 100 million likes.
