Barack Obama has little over three months left in the Oval Office, but Hollywood is already saying Yes We Can to Obama biopics. First out of the gates is Southside With You, which is being pitched as part political biopic, part romantic comedy.
The film will not be a detailed examination of the 44th US President's political legacy, instead it focusses on a single afternoon in 1989, when young 'Barry' took his future wife Michelle Robinson on their first date around Chicago's South Side.
Parker Sawyers (Survivor) plays the charming young law associate with a gift for oratory, while Tika Sumpter (Ride Along) is his initially reluctant beau. The film, which debuted at this year's Sundance Film Festival to a rapturous response, toes a fairly light romantic line, but also hints at the weightier political aspirations of the couple.
Southside With You is out now in the US and is set for release on 30 September here in the UK.
