New look at Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor and K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives online

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have recently released our latest look at Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) in Gareth Edwards' (Godzilla) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story via Empire magazine.

Empire's latest cover story boasts incredible access to the movie, accompanied by plenty of exclusive images, including this one of Felicity Jones' (The Theory Of Everything) rogue trooper on the desert moon of Jedha.

Alongside her in the still is tough military droid K-2SO (performance captured by Alan Tudyk) and Diego Luna's (Milk) Captain Cassian Andor, a combat hardened Rebel intelligence officer. As Jones explains in Empire, the first anthology movie in the canon promises to deviate a little from the established visual grammar of the franchise. "It's very much a boots-on-the-ground perspective of the Star Wars universe," she says. "The idea is that it feels as though you're actually there. You're in amongst it."

"It is mucky, it is grimy, you're in the trenches," adds her co-star Riz Ahmed (Ill Manors) of the look and feel Edwards has gone for. "To bring that kind of vérité feel to this world, that kind of documentary realism, is really exciting."

Set between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith (2005) and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story follows a group of Rebel soldiers who set out on a dangerous mission to steal the plans for the original Death Star and bring hope to the galaxy.

Jones leads a cast that includes Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn (Killing Them Softly), Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Jiang Wen (Gone With The Bullets), Forest Whitaker (Lee Daniels' The Butler), Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt), Alan Tudyk (Serenity), Jonathan Aris (Sherlock), Eunice Olumide (World War Z), and Genevieve O'Reilly reprising her role from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith (2005) as young Mon Mothma.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is released worldwide on 16 December.
