As he prepares to make his next horror thriller, director John Leonetti (Annabelle) is keeping his first piece of casting in The Conjuring (2013) family. News arrives via Deadline that he has hired Joey King, who played one of the haunted family members in James Wan's 2013 horror, as the lead for Wish Upon.
Barbara Marshall (Viral) has written the script for the movie, which will see King as 16-year-old outsider Claire who discovers a mysterious box that has the power to grant her any wish she desires. But, as you might expect from a horror thriller, such power carries consequences and Claire soon learns that every wish demands a deadly payment.
Broad Green Pictures are backing this one and is produced by former Bad Robot executive Sherryl Clark, now in charge of her own production company, Busted Shark. If everything falls into place, Leonetti should have the cameras rolling this autumn.
King was last seen in Independence Day: Resurgence and has worked on TV series Tween Fest and Zach Braff's (Wish I Was Here) next film, Going In Style, which will be out on 7 April next year.
