Rebel Wilson set to star in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake

The flurry of remakes is not slowing down any time soon, especially given that it is a tradition stretching back years in Hollywood. A new one has a prospect that is certainly rich with comedy potential. News arrives via Variety that MGM Pictures are developing a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), with Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) attached to star.

You may recall the 1988 original, which featured Steve Martin and Michael Caine as the titular con artists, though you might not know that it was itself a remake based on Bedtime Story (1964). In this take, the story will follow two female grifters, one who is cultured, the other uncouth, who compete to swindle a naive technology prodigy out of his fortune.

This one is still bubbling away, and there is no director or other casting attached yet. But it does have a script by Jac Schaeffer (TiMER), who most recently wrote science fiction action comedy The Shower, which has Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables) on board to star.

Wilson was last seen in How To Be Single and Grimsby, and will be back with the rest of the Pitch Perfect gang for the third movie, due next year.
