Following the success of Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book, it arguably makes sense that Walt Disney Pictures might want to consider more movies featuring animals. News arrives via The Hollywood Reporter that the studio are now developing Wild City for James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) to write and direct.
Little is known about the project at this early stage, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it is an original idea dreamt up by the writer and director and will see animals living wild in Los Angeles going on an adventure. It is described as a blend of live action and digital effects, so it seems likely that the creatures will be brought to life digitally.
Ponsoldt has has success with smaller movies so far, including Smashed (2012), The Spectacular Now (2013) and The End Of The Tour (2015). He is stepping up a level for his next film, The Circle, which stars Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Emma Watson (The Bling Ring) and John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). We are still awaiting a confirmed release date for the technology thriller.
