Zoe Kazan set for The Big Sick

Scoring Judd Apatow (This Is 40) to produce your script can be a bonus for any writer, and Kumail Nanjiani (Life As We Know It) and Emily V. Gordon (The Meltdown With Jonah And Kumail) have recently snagged his services. Now news arrives via The Hollywood Reporter that Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) will co-star in The Big Sick with Nanjiani.

Usually found these days either running his own series The Meltdown or as part of the main cast of Silicon Valley, Nanjiani has based the script on his and Gordon's real life marriage. The plot of the movie will follow the trials and tribulations that a Pakistan-born man and his girlfriend have to get through to be together.

This one appears likely to be padded out with reliably funny folk – the director is The State veteran Michael Showalter, who has a few films under his belt, and between him, the writers and Apatow, they certainly have plenty of contacts to fill the rest of the cast.

Kazan, who was last seen in Our Brand Is Crisis (2015), has Bryan Bertino's (The Strangers) There Are Monsters and comedy My Blind Brother awaiting release.
