"What goes up, must come down."

20th Century Fox have recently released their Super Bowl TV and first one sheet for Roland Emmerich's Independence Day (1996) sequel Independence Day: Resurgence.

It has been two decades since the alien invaders tried to lay waste to mankind and deplete our planet's valuable resources. We managed to hold them off that time, but we always knew they would be back. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare them for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force, and only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Emmerich here blends Independence Day veterans Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch with new arrivals Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Maika Monroe (It Follows), Joey King (White House Down) and Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow) for what he is promising an epic return engagement. The invaders have much bigger technology and some new tricks up their sleeve, but we have our typically plucky spirit, former President Whitmore (Pullman) in full speech mode and the brain power of David Levinson (Goldblum). Can we triumph? We will find out when Independence Day: Resurgence arrives in our cinemas on 24 June.
