Johnny Depp set to play The Invisible Man

In an effort to relaunch their classic creature features for new audiences, Universal Pictures certainly haven't been shy about looking to land big stars. With Tom Cruise (Edge Of Tomorrow) already attached to lead their Mummy reboot, news now arrives via Deadline Johnny Depp (Alice In Wonderland) will star in The Invisible Man.

Originally adapted from the H.G. Wells novel in 1933, The Invisible Man tells the story of a scientist who discovers a formula that can cloak him from the world. Unfortunately, as he starts to discover, a side effect of the formula is that drives him insane. Which certainly sounds like something Depp could get his teeth into.

Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 6) are still spearheading the overall effort on this one, acting as producers with Kurtzman also directing The Mummy. They haven't announced who will be writing or calling the shots on the new Invisible Man, but Depp's name on the project will hopefully attract some major interest.

The Mummy is scheduled to arrive on 9 June 2017, but we will have to wait and see when The Invisible Man creeps on to screens.
