Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal re-writing Rampage

It was announced last July that San Andreas (2015) team Dwayne Johnson and director Brad Peyton were reuniting to make video game adaptation Rampage. Now Johnson has announced via Instagram that Carlton Cuse (San Andreas) and Ryan Condal (Hercules) are aboard to work on the script.

Those of a certain age will remember feeding coins into the arcade cabinet (and later playing at home) to control three giant monsters – George (a giant gorilla), Lizzie (a huge lizard) and Ralph (a raging werewolf), who were normal humans until they were the subject of experiments by the nefarious Scumlabs and turned into their monstrous forms. Cuse and Condal will take over from Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) on the film's scripting front.

"We have a shot to raise the bar and make something cool with this one as the basic storyline is three mutated gigantic monsters (Silverback, Alligator and Wolf) destroy major cities and landmarks across the US," says Johnson in his Instagram post. "This summer I'll spend time at the San Diego Wildlife Preserve as well as with Anti-Poaching Units from Africa for my research. If you were a fan of the video game like I was, then you KNOW how bad ass and fun this movie can be. I'll try not to screw it up." Exactly how Johnson will fit into the plot has yet to be revealed.

Cuse and Condal have found success with their new science fiction series, Colony which follows characters in Los Angeles dealing with an alien occupation. It is just the latest project they have worked on together after meeting on an unsuccessful pilot show a few years ago.

As for Johnson, he has got another busy year coming up, as mapped out in another Instagram post that detailed his workload in the next few months. Once he finishes work on the second season of HBO sports management comedy drama Ballers, he moves onto the Baywatch film and then the next Fast & Furious instalment. After that, it's Rampage for a long stint of animal madness.
