The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) followed Barton Fink (1991), Burn After Reading (2008) followed No Country For Old Men (2007), and continuing that trend of a serious film followed by a fun one, The Coen Brothers' next after the low key Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) is Hollywood kidnap caper Hail, Caesar!.
Set during one of the golden ages of the big studio system, the film is focused on private detective turned movie company fixer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), who tracks down and covers up scandals among contracted players and directors. His current case involves him digging into the mysterious disappearance of a big star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) mid-way through a shoot.
The Coen's have assembled a ridiculously stellar cast for this one, with Scarlett Johansson (Lucy), Channing Tatum (White House Down), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Jonah Hill (The Wolf Of Wall Street), Tilda Swinton (We Need To Talk About Kevin), Frances McDormand (Burn After Reading), Clancy Brown (Cowboys & Aliens), Christopher Lambert (Southland Tales), Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager) and Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables) among the rest of the cast alongside Clooney and Brolin.
Hail, Caesar! is out in the UK on 26 February.
