Jet Li and Tony Jaa set to for xXx 3

Usually known for his casting announcements via Facebook, Vin Diesel has been suspiciously quiet about this announcement, so perhaps we should treat it with caution for the time being. But word has arrived via  Twitch that Jet Li (The Expendables) and Tony Jaa (Furious 7) are set to join the belated xXx sequel. Twitch also reveal that Indian star Deepika Padukone (Chennai Express) is in the frame.

Padukone would be on the side of the good guys, so we are told, but there is no indication as to the roles Li and Jaa would fill as yet. Jaa previously appeared with Diesel in Furious 7 (2015), and is, you would imagine, hoping for some actual lines this time out.

Already officially confirmed in the cast is Samuel L. Jackson, returning as NSA agent Augustus Gibbons. Current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will also have a role.

The new xXx has Michael Ferris and John Brancato (Terminator Salvation) writing the script for director D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) and producer Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend). There is no set release date for this one just yet, but it appears that the wheels are well and truly in motion for extreme sports rebel turned government asset Xander Cage to head back to our screens somewhere in between Fast & Furious 8 and Riddick 4.
