Titus Welliver set to play mob boss in Ben Affleck's Live By Night

Currently busy shooting his latest project directing and starring, Ben Affleck (Argo) has added one of his lucky charms, someone who has worked on every film that he has made in his career behind the camera to date. News arrives via The Wrap that Titus Welliver is joining Live By Night.

Affleck's latest adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel finds characters from one of the writer's previous books (The Given Day) and tracks them into the Prohibition era. Our main focus is Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), a police captain's son who, with his brother Danny (Scott Eastwood) finds himself caught up in organised crime as part of a rum smuggling organisation that transports alcohol from Cuba to Boston via Florida.

Welliver joins an ensemble that also includes Sienna Miller (Stardust) as Emma Gould, who Coughlin falls for, but who also happens to be the daughter of his mobster boss. Then there is Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Graciella Suarez, part of the Floridian crime structure and Elle Fanning (Maleficent) as the sheriff's daughter Loretta Figgis, an aspiring actress who finds herself in a world of trouble. And that is just the main cast, with Chris Messina (Argo), Chris Cooper (Jarhead), Anthony Michael Hall (The Dark Knight) and recent addition Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) aboard. There is no exact release date yet, but the film should be out in 2017. Welliver has just finished shooting the second season of Amazon drama Bosch, which is set to return to our TV screens next year.
