Rooney Mara and Nicholas Hoult set for The Discovery

If you were the person who discovered that the afterlife is real after all, and could be scientifically proven, what would you do? Find religion? Become depressed? Or use the knowledge to convince someone to fall in love with you? These are the themes behind new science fiction drama The Discovery, with news arriving via The Hollywood Reporter that Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) and Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) are now set to star.

Hoult will play a scientist who discovers that heaven – or at least a version of it – might actually be real, a place where he will meet and fall for Mara, a woman whose past is tinged with tragedy. We imagine his big discovery ties into that somehow.

Charlie McDowell is directing this one, working with his The One I Love (2014) co-writer Justin Lader to once again produce the script. He will have the cameras rolling this January in Rhode Island.

Hoult recently worked on Equals alongside Kristen Stewart (The Runaways), and can currently be seen in Kill Your Friends . He will be also back with his mutant colleagues in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014) follow-up X-Men: Apocalypse, which arrives 19 May next year. Mara is also on screens now in Pan and stars with Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) in the acclaimed Carol, which is out on 27 November.
