Nicole Kidman set for Wonder Woman

The DC Extended Universe could be about to obtain its latest Academy Award® winner. News arrives via The Wrap that Nicole Kidman (Stoker) is currently in negotiations to take on a role in Wonder Woman.

If she does join the film, she will apparently be playing a high-ranking Amazonian warrior, seen alongside Gal Gadot's (Fast & Furious 6) Princess Diana – also known as Wonder Woman and her alter ego Diana Prince – and the report speculates that she could be looking at the role of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, and the heroine's biological mother.

Patty Jenkins (Monster) is in the director's chair for the film, written by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift), which seems to be about exploring Wonder Woman's origin story. We will also meet Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), the human who wins Diana's heart. His role will be boosted from the usual sidekick in the comics for the film.

It is certainly unusual to think of Kidman going for a comic book movie these days, but not that unusual – she was, after all, Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever (1995) and occasionally takes genre roles alongside her more awards baiting films. Wonder Woman is aiming for a 23 June 2017 release date in the US. Kidman will next be seen in drama remake Secret In Their Eyes, which is out in the UK on 4 March next year.
