Idris Elba and J.K. Simmons join Zootropolis voice cast

As previously announced, Byron Howard's (Tangled) next feature for Walt Disney Animation Studios will be Zootropolis, a buddy comedy meets conspiracy thriller set in a world entirely populated by animals. Now the impressive voice cast has been announced via USA Today, which includes Idris Elba (Prometheus), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses), Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time), Octavia Spencer (The Help), Tommy Chong (After Hours), Nate Torrence (She's Out Of My League) and Alan Tudyk (I, Robot) rocking the mic for the menagerie.

Our main characters are smooth Fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and cop rabbit Lt. Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin). Idris Elba will be Chief Bogo (a bull), J.K. Simmons is Mayor Leodore Lionheart (a lion), Tommy Chong is hippy yak Ya, Octavia Spencer is Mrs Otterton (an otter), while Nate Torrence is Benjamin Clawhauser (a cheetah), and Alan Tudyk is small-time crook Duke Weaselton (a weasel).

"Usually in animal movies, people just make them all human and give them human abilities," Howard said at Disney's D23 event back in 2013, "but we wanted to bring the animal abilities into the movie. In the same way we pushed human animation in Tangled (2010), we want to show an animal movie the way no one has seen before. Animals in our world are beautiful and amazing and we wanted to capture that and tie it to what we are as humans."

Zootropolis will be out here on 25 March next year, following its US release on 4 March.
