Zach Galifianakis to voice Joker for The Lego Batman Movie

Jared Leto is no longer the newest Joker in town. News arrives via The Hollywood Reporter that Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) will be lending his voice to the iconic Batman villain in Chris McKay's (Robot Chicken) The Lego Batman Movie.

The Lego Movie (2014) spin-off promises to cover as many aspects and eras of the Dark Knight's legacy as it can squeeze into one movie's running time. And, naturally, The Joker is part of that, since he has the crazed yin to Batman's entirely sensible and black obsessed yang. Will Arnett is set to return as the voice of the caped crusader with Michael Cera (Juno) recently signing to be Robin.

The people in charge of bringing the new film to life include Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) on script duty and Chris McKay, animation co-director/editor on The Lego Movie, set to direct. Franchise overlords Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) are producing. The Lego Batman Movie will be with us on 10 February 2017.

Galifianakis, last seen in Alejandro González Iñárritu's Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance), has crime comedy Masterminds headed our way, though its planned October UK release may yet be imperilled by the collapse of original production company Relativity. He has also worked on romantic drama Tulip Fever and is filming Keeping Up With The Joneses alongside Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Isla Fisher (Now You See Me).
