Mark Wahlberg has occasionally found himself in the buddy comedy genre, including for films such as The Other Guys (2010) and Ted (2012). Partners sees him returning to that format, but with something of a twist.
Partners, which has a script by Evan Turner (The Goldbergs) and the backing of New Line, finds Wahlberg as an LAPD detective who has a one night stand with a woman, and falls for her. He soon discovers she is an FBI agent and, to complicate matters, will be his boss on a high profile case. According to Deadline's report, the studio sees this one as sitting squarely in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) arena, with a lot of big action set pieces. And, hopefully, with a decent co-starring role for an actress.
There is no word on when this might arrive on our screens as it is clearly still early days – no director is attached and the film would have to wait for Wahlberg to be available. Wahlberg will be back in comedy mode alongside his The Other Guys co-star Will Ferrell for Daddy's Home, which lands in the UK on Christmas Day, and is currently shooting oil rig drama Deepwater Horizon.
