Dominic Cooper set for Stratton

Simon West (The Mechanic) and the team behind action thriller Stratton had an unpleasant surprise at the end of May when Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel), who had developed the idea and was set to star, dropped out thanks to creative differences over the script. Now news arrives via Screen International that after a quick search, West has found a replacement leading man in Dominic Cooper (The Devil's Double), plus additional casting in the shape of Tom Felton (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes), Austin Stowell (Whiplash), Gemma Chan (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), Tyler Hoechlin (Hall Pass), Thomas Kretschmann (Wanted), Derek Jacobi (The King's Speech), Connie Nielsen (3 Days To Kill) and Jake Fairbrother (Skyfall).

Though the cameras were originally due to roll last month, a quick schedule shift meant cameras finally kicked this week. Cooper is aboard to play a Special Boat Service operative who must join forces with MI6 to prevent a terrorist attack. West, for one, seems more than happy with the new faces for the film. "Dominic Cooper's talent, versatility and his originality as an actor, provide the perfect fit for what will be an entirely fresh and memorable action hero," he told Screen International. "Supporting Dominic is an inspired choice of cast who are all extremely talented, uniquely diverse and will undeniably bring both charm and energy to make Stratton the ongoing potential franchise we know it can be."

With a batch of distribution deals still in place, the film has yet to find a release date yet, but should be out next year.
