Sam Worthington set for Den Of Thieves

It was announced last year that Gerard Butler (300) had signed to star in the long-developing heist thriller Den Of Thieves. Development has certainly taken some time, but the film should finally be ready to shoot later this year as The Wrap reports that Sam Worthington (Avatar) is on board to co-star.

Writer/director Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart) originally co-wrote the script with Paul Scheuring back in 1998 and watched it tumble through a void of meetings, drafts and decisions. At one point, Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) appeared set to direct it, but moved on to other things. Then, in 2008, Gudegast was handed the chance to call the shots himself.

Butler, who is also attached as executive producer, is playing a thief who is figuring out his most audacious robbery yet, taking down the Federal Reserve in Los Angeles under the nose of a corrupt sheriff's deputy. The plan becomes even more complicated when he is caught between two groups of criminals.

Worthington, last seen in Kidnapping Freddy Heineken, is part of the cast for Baltasar Kormákur's (Contraband) Everest, due 25 September and action thriller Hunter's Prayer, which is still awaiting a release slot.
