Woody Allen's latest, Irrational Man, certainly finds the writer/director back in familiar territory. Joaquin Phoenix (Her) is part of the focus here, playing a disaffected intellectual (check) who is given a new assignment at a picturesque place, this time a swanky American college (check) and finds something that helps him feel that much more alive and connected to people (check).
In this case, that new outlook on life comes courtesy of Emma Stone (The Help), who plays a beautiful student quite taken with the professor despite his initially gloomy outlook on life. But then there is Parker Posey's (Superman Returns) fellow academic, who also strikes up a relationship with Phoenix's Abe Lucas.
With Jamie Blackley (If I Stay), Ethan Phillips (Inside Llewyn Davis), Meredith Hagner, Ben Rosenfield (A Most Violent Year) and David Aaron Baker (Edge Of Darkness) aboard, Irrational Man will be out in the US on 24 July, but has yet to secure a UK release date.
