Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel the works

While the level of Kingsman: The Secret Service's success ($400 million plus at the global box office) may have taken even 20th Century Fox by surprise, it's clearly not so shocking for director Matthew Vaughn, who had hoped it might do well so that he can launch a sequel. The Wrap reports that Fox has now put the new film into development.

While there is no official announcement to confirm the report, Vaughn certainly hasn't been shy about talking up his desire to make another film.

Of course, any discussion of a sequel naturally comes with a spoiler warning, so consider yourself suitably advised if you haven't watched the first movie.

The death of Colin Firth's Harry Hart in the original means his presence in the sequel would likely have to be via some trickery, or gadget, though there is also a chance that we will see more of Harry in flashback. Taron Egerton's Eggsy will be the focus, having finally bloomed into a fully fledged Kingsman by the time the credits roll.

However it works out, we will likely have to wait a while since there is no release date set yet and Vaughn has to compile his future slate. He is currently in talks to handle a new Flash Gordon for the studio and is still developing comic book adaptation The Golden Age. Given his feelings towards the Kingsman world, we wouldn't be surprised if he comes back for more, even if it means handing directing chores off to someone else as he did with Kick-Ass 2 (2013). As always, watch this space.
