The film represents Paramount Pictures' attempts to breathe fresh life into the Japanese horror spawned franchise, which has been quiet of late. The plot will reportedly find Galecki's charismatic, hard living professor Gabriel mentoring younger couple Holt (Alex Roe) and Julia (Matilda Lutz). We would expect them all to somehow come into contact with the cursed videotape in a story that takes place 13 years after the original American Ring.
F. Javier Gutiérrez is directing this one, working from a script by David Loucka (House At The End Of The Street), Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek) and Akiva Goldsman (The Da Vinci Code), with shooting already underway ready for a 13 November release in the States. Galecki largely appears on The Big Bang Theory at the moment, though he recently started a production company to develop other projects.
