Audra McDonald set for Beauty And The Beast

Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) has been busy recently building quite the ensemble for Walt Disney Pictures' new live action Beauty And The Beast, now news arrives via The Hollywood Reporter that Tony Award winner Audra McDonald has joined the cast to play living wardrobe Garderobe.

Emma Watson (The Perks Of Being A Wallflower) is aboard to play Belle, a young woman who agrees to take her father's place in the home of a cursed prince that has been turned into a beastly creature (Dan Stevens). She is also courted by the arrogant misogynist Gaston (Luke Evans), who, when she rejects his advances in favour of the charming Beast, sets off on a course of revenge.

Garderobe is one of the people turned into enchanted objects who initially help Watson's Belle adjust to life in the castle. She joins Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), who was recently hired to play teapot Mrs. Potts. Given that Condon and Academy Award® wining composer Alan Menken are aiming to use the songs from the 1991 animated version with additional tracks added, we could expect to hear McDonald warbling 'Human Again' in the film.

Condon will be cranking the cameras this May at Shepperton Studios, with the movie targeting a 17 March 2017 release in the States. There is no confirmed UK release date as yet.
