Ryan Reynolds locked in as Deadpool

Though it would seem to be little more than a formality at this point, there was no official confirmation, when 20th Century Fox announced that the Deadpool film was actually happening, that Ryan Reynolds (Buried) would return. Word now arrives via Deadline that he is busy making a deal for the film, and announced the news somewhat less than cryptically via his Twitter page.

Deadline, meanwhile, reports that he's in the middle of closing a deal for the film, which special effects wizard turned director Tim Miller will wrangler together starting in March.

Despite his eventually silenced form in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), the character best known as Wade Wilson, the Merc With A Mouth is normally found chattering away about everything, and even breaking the fourth wall as he goes about his missions. Zombieland (2009) writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have written the script, and have said in the past that they intend to honour the character's wisecracking, meta nature. The test footage that arrived online in the middle of the year certainly kept that spirit intact.

So now the near indestructible hero should arrive properly on our screens finally in 2016. And intriguingly, the report mentions that this is a collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios – so could we one day see Deadpool meeting some of his non Fox owned Marvel pals? As always, watch this space.
