Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar have just released their latest full length trailer for Pete Docter's (Up) Inside Out.
We may have suffered through a year without a new Pixar film, but 2015 is shaping up to be a good one with two releases from the company – Inside Out and delayed effort The Good Dinosaur.
Sprung from the mind of Monsters Inc. (2001) and Up (2009) director Pete Docter, Inside Out is the story of a little girl called Riley, an 11 year-old who has moved with her family to San Francisco. More specifically, however, the focus is in her mind, exploring how memories are formed and how a mixture of five emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear
(Bill Hader) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) – define her life experiences.
Given the high concept conceit, the trailer sensibly avoids darting around the story in favour of playing out a sequence in full to help us wrap our minds around it. While it would probably be inappropriate to namecheck Woody Allen's Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid To Ask) (1972) at this point, Docter's film does mine similarly rich comic terrain in having the brain running haywire like an asylum overrun by its lunatics.
Inside Out is released on 24 July.
