"It's not what you did, son. It's who you did it to."

Lionsgate have just released their first trailer for Chad Stahelski's directorial debut John Wick.

Blending a violent killer thriller with vague elements of absurdist laughs would seem to be a tricky proposition, but it's one that former stunt coordinator turned director Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad (The Package) are willing to try.

Keanu Reeves stars as the titular former hitman, who has given up bullet slinging for a quiet life. Until, that is, he runs afoul of some gangsters who take a shine to his car. Rebuffed, they track him down and take everything, even killing his beloved dog. Enraged, Wick picks up the tools of his trade once more and soon no one is safe...

Surrounded by a none more eclectic cast including Adrianne Palicki (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Willem Dafoe (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bridget Moynahan (Battle Los Angeles), Ian McShane (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Jason Isaacs (Green Zone), Alfie Allen (Game Of Thrones), Lance Reddick (White House Down), John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge!) and Michael Nyqvist (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol), Reeves looks to be having a blast in this one, in more ways than one. Let's hope that translates to the film.

John Wick heads to US screens on 24 October, with no word on a UK release date as yet.
