Ridley Scott set to take on David

Ridley Scott has clearly been bitten by the Biblical bug. With Exodus: Gods And Kings marching its way towards our cinemas, the Prometheus (2012) director is already looking at another potential Old Testament character: David.

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has hired Jonathan Stokes (El Gringo) to start work on a script that would take the story of David and Goliath – young man proves his faith by defeating a giant warrior in a fight, armed only with a sling and some stones – as its inspiration for a script that will likely follow David's reign as a king after his epic victory.

So far, all we really know is that the film bears the working title of David and that Scott is aboard to develop the idea alongside Exodus partner company Chernin Entertainment. And he may not end up actually calling the shots: while he's definitely producing, he could well hand it off to someone else, even as Fox would likely be willing to wait until he's available given that it's another epic story in the making.

All of that, of course, is in the future with the script needing to be cracked first. Scott, meanwhile, will be out stumping for Exodus: Gods And Kings and plans to shoot Matt Damon (Elysium) astronaut thriller The Martian next, along with the developing Prometheus sequel.
