Lionsgate have just released their latest promotional material for Christian Ditter's (French For Beginners) Love, Rosie. In an attempt to stand out from the usual romantic comedy crowd, the film arrives bearing two different trailers and condom packet one sheets labelled His and Hers.
While we're expected to make a cinematic leap of faith right from the start – buying Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as an awkward, stuttering, nervous virgin – it's too early to tell from this early peek how much of Cecelia Ahern's novel has actually made it to the screen. It does still focus on best friends Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Sam Claflin) as they negotiate the tricky waters of growing up.
The book's plot sees them separated when Alex's family move to Boston and teases readers with their choices between staying just friends and taking the relationship to the next level. From the looks of one of the trailers, we quickly get to Rosie and Alex giving sex a try, with humorous results. The other, meanwhile, finds Alex mortified when a seemingly discreet IM chat with Rosie is broadcast to the entire class.
Fans of the book will naturally be comparing the two, but Ditter and screenwriter Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls) will be hoping their film stands on its own.
With Tamsin Egerton (Chalet Girl), Art Parkinson (Game Of Thrones), Christian Cooke (Cemetery Junction) and Jaime Winstone (Made In Dagenham) among the roster in front of the camera, Love, Rosie is out on 17 October.
