New international trailer for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit arrives online

With just over two months before the release of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the marketing campaign is ratcheting up another gear or six. The first teaser touched down a couple of weeks ago and now we have the first international promo.

Shadow Recruit, directed by and co-starring Kenneth Branagh, is a reboot of Ryan's origin story that sees Pine inheriting the mantle from Alec Baldwin (The Hunt For Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum Of All Fears).

In this one, despite his relative youth, Jack Ryan is an established CIA covert analyst who discovers a sneaky Russian plot (by Branagh’s Viktor Cherevin) to crash the U.S. economy. Naturally, stopping the evil plan won't happen by sitting behind a desk watching the stock market figures.

Add to the mix his mentor, William Harper (Kevin Costner) trying to help him stay alive, and his relationship with wife Cathy (Keira Knightley) and you've got the makings of a full on Ryan cocktail.

Pleasingly, this new trailer puts Knightley's Cathy Ryan in a much more positive light. Instead of the concerned wife cliche, here she's much more his equal, at one point helping out on the mission.

There are still shades of Martin Campbell and Daniel Craig's first take on Bond here, which hopefully is a world that Ryan can play well in. And while the new trailer borrows a fair chunk of its footage from the first teaser, there's certainly enough fresh material here to make it well worth a watch.

With David Paymer (Drag Me To Hell), Colm Feore (Thor) and Nonso Anozie (The Grey) among the cast, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is out in the UK on 26 December.
