Director José Padilha's (Elite Squad) new take on the tale of man meeting machine for law enforcement purposes is set in 2028, at a time when multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is looking to expand its reach beyond supplying army drones and military robots for overseas conflicts.
The company, led by Michael Keaton's greedy CEO, sees a prime opportunity when dedicated undercover cop Alex Murphy is critically injured in a bomb blast outside his home. Slotting him into a cyborg frame, they figure he'll be the first of many, a boon to their shareholders and a chance to control the police force. Something they counted without Murphy's human side trying to overcome his technological trappings.
Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Abbie Cornish (Limitless), Jay Baruchel (Cosmopolis), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) and Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire) all crop up in the film, which has targeted a February 7 release over here.
