First trailer for Spike Lee's Oldboy reboot now online

The first trailer has arrived for Spike Lee's (Malcom X, 25th Hour, Inside Man) ambitious, intriguing remake of Chan-wook Park's brutal 2003 film Oldboy. Although those of you coming to the story completely fresh, might want to skip the red band trailer to avoid too many spoilers.

Lee’s take on the Manga cult classic, sees advertising executive Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin) imprisoned for reasons he can’t fathom, locked away in solitary confinement for 20 years and then just as mysteriously released to seek vengeance against those he thinks are responsible. Who is telling the truth? And who will survive?

Lee certainly seems to have cooked up a stylish, moody film here – the big challenge will be in standing up to Chan-Wook’s original. With Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Django Unchained), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Michael Imperioli (The Lovely Bones), Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Lance Reddick (White House Down) in the cast, Oldboy will be out on 6 December.
